Maury Elementary School

June 24, 2013

DC Greenworks is again working with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) on the Greener Schools Cleaner Rivers at Maury Elementary School in Capitol Hill.  DC Greenworks has been working with our partners to design and build a Native Habitat Garden along the front facade of Maury along 13th Street and Constitution Avenue NE.  The new garden features over 30 native plant varieties which will help capture and reduce over 75,000 gallons of stormwater from entering the sewer system, and thus polluting our local waterways.  The installation of the garden was a collaboration of DC Greenworks’ staff, and volunteers from NFWF and Fedex.  We have also partnered with the Anacostia Watershed Society, bringing a new stormwater curriculum into the school and educating our youth on the many of the environmental issues we face in DC.
